Legacy of George Fernandes
Dictatorship does violence to the spirit of the man. It is neither legal, constitutional nor even moral. It leaves the people no legal and constitutional means to fight it. And even then to fight it remains an inalienable right of all men, all those who believe in the sacredness, dignity and freedom of man.
– George Fernances, Statement before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Delhi, 10 February 1977
This volume, Legacy of George Fernandes, with contributions from George’s close associates, friends and admirers, is a modest effort to remember George and his political life and legacy. He fought for the rights of the working class and the underdog and remained political colossus on the national scene for several decades.
